First Reconciliation and First Communion
Students generally receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion during 2nd Grade. Of course, there are some exceptions to that! Please see below for more information regarding preparation for the reception of these sacraments.

Parents prepare their children for the Sacrament of Reconciliation before First Communion. Enrollment in a year-long faith formation process is required. A family-oriented preparation process is offered to assist and support parents with children in grade two and older. Preparation for each sacrament includes a parent meeting, a parent/child retreat experience, and completion of a take-home booklet.

Faith Formation Classes
Children attend Faith Formation classes with grade-level peers so they become part of the community and journey in faith together.

Baptism Classes (For children who have not been Baptized)
Parents attend Baptism Class offered in the AFC and one session with Barb.
Because children need to be baptized prior to receiving any other sacrament, First Reconciliation preparation will take place the following year.

Parent Meetings
A parent’s presence is important. Sacraments are special events in the child’s life, the life of the family, and the life of the parish. We want to help parents to prepare their children to celebrate First Reconciliation and First Communion. We hope to make this preparation time for parents an opportunity to share the journey with others, have some adult understanding, and take home ideas to grow in love and faith! The children will attend regular classes with the catechist.

Parent and Child Centers
The centers will take about 1½ hours to complete. Parents and children are encouraged to come relaxed and ready for a “retreat-like” atmosphere. Snacks will be provided. This time is for the child and parents to prepare in a hands-on way.

First Reconciliation
Individual Reconciliation occurs on a Saturday in January with parent and child using some of the Stations of the Cross to prepare the child to examine their conscience and to receive the sacrament.

First Communion
First Communion occurs later in April. A rehearsal is scheduled for the children and parents the Wednesday before the sacrament. Parents join the children in church for the rehearsal with Father Steve.

AT HOME: Take Home Booklets
Parents work with their child and use the time as an opportunity to share about the sacrament and offer parent input. Booklets are given out at the parent meetings.

Calendar for the Year

A calendar with all the dates for the year will be provided for parents. There are also links to the calendars above.
