Confirmation Candidates choose a Saint of the Church to be their unseen mentor. Each candidate researches the stories of Saints to choose one whose life impacts the candidate in a significant way. The chosen Saint’s name becomes the candidate’s Confirmation name. Candidates can also choose to use their baptismal name, though they will still need to research a Saint as well.
In choosing a name you are choosing a Saint to be a part of your Confirmation experience. Someone to be your role model in faith from the great cloud of witnesses that surround us. There are patron Saints for everything you can imagine, for hunters, musicians, writers, and many more. Take a look at some of the extensive lists found on the internet sites listed below.
**Please note: These sites also list Venerables and Blessed (Bl.), these are people in the process of canonization (to become Saints) but are not yet Saints. Please be sure the Saint you choose is listed as Saint (St.) ________.

Once it is clear to you who your Saint will be, ask that Saint to be your companion on your journey toward Confirmation. As Catholics, we believe in the Communion of Saints, so ask your Saint to pray for you and to guide you.
The next step in your process is to let us know that you have chosen that Saint, and to reflect on what you have learned about the Saint and why you chose the person you did. Make sure to describe why you chose the Saint you did - what about his/her story made an impact on you. If you chose a name in honor of someone you know in your life (perhaps it is your grandfather's name), please also include why you chose the Saint as well (i.e. What about St. Peter made you choose that name? Not just that it's your grandfather's name).
