Grade 9 - The Teen Timeline Scripture Study

For many years we have heard teens and adults talk about not knowing enough about Scripture. The ninth grade program is our response to the desire to learn more about the Word of God and integrate the study of the Bible with one’s everyday life.

The Teen Timeline is a video-based program that breaks down the Bible into twelve color-coded time periods:
  • Early World (Creation-2000 BC)
  • Patriarchs (2000-1700 BC)
  • Egypt and Exodus (1700-1280 BC)
  • Desert Wanderings (1280-1240 BC)
  • Conquest and Judges (1240-1050 BC)
  • Royal Kingdom (1050-930 BC)
  • Divided Kingdom (930-722 BC)
  • Exile (722-538 BC)
  • Return (538-167 BC)
  • Maccabean Revolt (167 BC-1 AD)
  • Messianic Fulfillment (1-33 AD)
  • The Church (33-Present)

For each story we cover in The Teen Timeline series, teens receive a bead to help them remember the story. At the end of the year, each teen has a chain to take home that will hopefully help them to remember what was learned throughout the year.

Each session contains a short video, discussion, and a hands-on activity to help the teens remember the stories learned. To see a sample clip from one of the videos, click here. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQTdvuw0LYU)

Each grade level provides two opportunities for parents and youth to grow in their faith together, called Parent and Youth Sessions (PAY) with each child in Faith Formation.   PAY sessions are during regular class time or during a longer window of time (to allow for parents/guardians’ work schedules). Watch your e-mail for further information about each grade's PAY sessions and/or click here for more information.

As part of the program, teens will also follow the command of Jesus Christ to care for our neighbor through a service night, working with a local organization to live out the call of discipleship. The Service Night is scheduled for the spring of the year. More information will be shared this spring regarding this opportunity.

Lastly, as part of the ninth grade year all teens watch a video called Romance Without Regret by Jason and Crystalina Evert. This video covers the issues of sexuality, chastity, and dating. For more information and helpful tools for parents on these subjects, check out their website (http://chastityproject.com/). To see a sample of the video, click here:
