Children’s Liturgy of the Word (LoW) is an opportunity for our littlest ones to understand the first part of Mass (the First Reading through the Prayers of the Faithful) on their level. It is an authentic celebration of Liturgy of the Word adapted for children according to the Directory of Masses with Children. Children’s Liturgy of the Word is an extension of the Mass in a separate place for a specific age group with particular guidelines.
A typical experience of Children's Liturgy of the Word:
Young children have an incredible religious capacity and are formed profoundly by God’s Word and prayer at their level. We honor the spirituality of our little ones and their worship of God.
A typical experience of Children's Liturgy of the Word:
- Families attend Mass together.
- Following the Opening Prayer, the priest will call the children forward to be dismissed.
- Children follow the LoW leaders to a separate space.
- Children sing (with actions) a responsorial psalm.
- Children listen to the Gospel.
- Children discuss the meaning of the Gospel.
- Children renew their baptismal promises.
- Children pray for the needs of the community.
- Children return to their families during the Preparation of the Gifts.
